The Indian

The Indian

Notes on the use of the Indian logo on our website

Some of you may not be aware that, with recent sensitivities concerning the use of Native American mascots by high school, college, and professional sports teams, the CMHS school board voted in 2021 to do away with the team name “Indians” and any associated images or references.

All of us who were proud to call ourselves “Indians” in previous years know that no disrespect was ever been meant by it; in fact, the qualities of strength, resourcefulness, pride, and freedom, that have been for many, many years associated with Native Americans, are qualities that all members of the CMHS community honor and strive to emulate; as well as a way we always had of connecting with our Western heritage.

The reunion committee has decided to retain the Indian head logo because it helps connect us with the past, and who we were years ago when we were in high school together. The reunion committee, and the events that we have planned, have no connection with, or the sponsorship of, the current administration, school board, students, or policies of CMHS.
